Surprise Proposal | Bowditch Point Park | Fort Myers Beach
In Florida, we get over 300 days of sun per year. Every season is beach season in the sunshine state and when you live on the coast, a beach day is just a short drive away! That is why our beaches here in Southwest, Florida are such prime spots for that romantic proposal! And also why it is one of my favorite locations to photograph special moments like these!
My main goal when photographing proposals, is to ensure that I am telling a story with my images. I want the couple to look back at their photos and remember the experience and every emotion they felt during this moment.
When Joe initially contacted me about photographing his sister Karolyn’s proposal, I knew right away that this was going to be a story worth telling!
Eddie and Karolyn had been together for about a year and he knew that she was his forever. He chose to take advantage of a family trip to Florida to pop the big question! Eddie asked Joe to act as liaison to ensure that we could get this planned without Karolyn suspecting anything.
Joe and his wonderful girlfriend, Lindsay, met me in advance at the chosen spot: a beautiful, hidden gem in Fort Myers Beach called Bowditch Point Park. As a photographer, I was extremely disappointed I had not discovered this spot before this moment as it quickly became my new favorite location for beach sessions!
Now, part of photographing a proposal means remaining out of site until after the question has been asked and the YES has been given. For Karolyn and Eddie, this meant hiding in the sand dunes, experiencing a massive attack of sand spurs, and finding sand in anything and everything for days following the event.
BUT, I wouldn’t have changed a thing!
I was in the perfect spot to capture the long walk down to the beach, the anxiousness in Eddie’s face, the seashell that Karolyn found and loved so much she had to stop to pick it up, and the perfectly lit backdrop of the Gulf Coast.
He asked. She said yes. We laughed, we cried, and we captured the authentic emotions the couple felt as the feeling of “I’m ENGAGED” settled in!
Karolyn and Eddie will be tying the knot this upcoming September in Ohio! I cannot wait to see what adventures their new life will bring them!
